Homes England response to South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse Joint Local Plan

Homes England has submitted its representations in response to the South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) and Vale of White Horse District Council (VWHDC) regulation 18 part 2 consultation on the Joint Local Plan.

As an existing allocated site, Chalgrove Airfield is not in the Oxford Green Belt and a significant proportion is previously developed land. Having been robustly tested as part of an independent examination previously, it provides an unrivalled opportunity to create a sustainable new 21st Century Market Town that integrates with the existing community of Chalgrove, improves the sustainability of nearby communities and supports the delivery of long-term growth across South Oxfordshire.

Homes England strongly oppose the decision to de-allocate the Chalgrove airfield site within the draft plan and we are concerned about the likely impact this decision would have on the ability of the two local authorities to deliver the homes and the supporting infrastructure the area needs. Without Chalgrove Airfield, more than £150m of investment in new transport and community infrastructure would not come forward and the decision would risk the ability to meet housing needs in this part of Oxfordshire.
